How to reach Indian Institute of Science

1. From Bangalore International Airport : The Institute is located at a distance of around 35 kms from the airport and roughly takes around an hour to reach. One can reach the Institute by the following modes of transport.

Taxi Service: At the gate of the airport taxi service is available which drops travelers to their destination anywhere in Bangalore. They normally charge around Rs.15 /- per km and to reach the Institute it costs around Rs. 600/-.

Bus Service: Buses ply from airport to various parts of the city. Both air-conditioned (Volvo) and normal buses (Vayuvajra) shuttle between airport and different parts of the city.
One can reach the Institute by catching buses  BIAL-11 and get down at the Security Gate of IISc (this should be told to the Conductor, otherwise the bus will stop only at the 18th cross, Malleswaram). The bus charge is around Rs.125/-.
Alternatively one can get down at Mekhri Circle (route #1, #2, #5and #6) and catch an autorickshaw to the Institute which is around 2 kms from this circle. Auto-rickshaws charge around Rs.20/- to drop at the Institute (popularly known as Tata Institute).

2. From Main Railway Station : The main railway station is located at the centre of the city and is well connected to various localities of Bangalore. The Institute is located at a distance of around 7 kms in the north direction. One can reach the Institute by using prepaid auto-rickshaw services starting from the outside of the station. It costs around Rs.80 /-. Also one can come by taxi and charges will be around Rs. 200/-. Travel by autorickshaws between 10:00 p.m. and 06:00 a.m. will cost 50% more. You can also use the bus services from the Majestic bus station: Bus Route nos. 252 E, 258 C, 271 E, 273 C, 275, 99 A and B . Alight at TATA INSTITUTE Bus Stop.
 

3. Cantonment Station : Many trains also stop at Cantonment station which is at a distance of 5 kms from the Institute. Large numbers of auto-rickshaws are available outside the station and charge around Rs.50-80/- to reach the Institute. Taxi charges will be around Rs.150-200/-.

Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) run buses from various points of the city every 15 minutes to the Bangalore International Airport (BIAL).
